The conference programme was rich with the latest research, offering ample opportunities for discussions and networking. The theme for this year's conference revolved around integrating sustainability within glass science and technological advancements. Delegates discussed the latest research in glass chemistry and structure, sustainable practices in glass melting and forming, and the role of computational techniques in enhancing glass production and applications.
Dr. Thomas Jüngling, Managing Director of DGG, drew a thoroughly positive conclusion about the conference. "We were able to attract renowned speakers once again, achieving an excellent mix of industry and academia. The feedback from participants highlights the success of the event in fostering valuable discussions and networking opportunities."
DGG Awards
The prestigious DGG awards, recognising outstanding contributions to the glass industry, were presented at the opening ceremony:
- Adolf-Dietzel-Industriepreis: Awarded to Dr. Malte Sander for his significant contributions to the understanding and development of glass materials, particularly his work on the surface conditioning of glass-ceramics and the description of the viscosity-temperature dependence of glasses using AI approaches.
- Goldener Gehlhoff-Ring: Awarded to Dr. Thomas Hünlich for his long-term, intensive, and dedicated work as the head of Technical Committee VI "Environmental Protection," contributing significantly to the development of the society.
The best 3 poster from young scientists were also honoured with the DGG poster awards.
Aachen: An Ideal Host City
Aachen was selected for this year's conference due to its strong ties to glass and engineering research, particularly through RWTH Aachen University. Partnering with Prof. Christian Roos, the Programme Chair from RWTH, emphasized the integration of academic excellence into the event.
Looking Forward
Next year, the 98th Glass-Technology Conference will move to Goslar, Germany, hosted by the Technical University of Clausthal, with Prof. Joachim Deubener as the Programme Chair and Conference President. The tradition of rotating locations annually allows collaboration with local academic leaders and exploration of different regions, enriching the conference experience with diverse academic and cultural environments.
The 97th Glass-Technology Conference successfully brought together industry professionals, researchers, and students, providing a unique platform for knowledge exchange and networking. With its diverse programme and emphasis on innovation and collaboration, the conference remains a vital event for the global glass community. We look forward to continuing this tradition of excellence at future conferences.
